Description:
Ronald Lee Chandler (born August 29, 1963), singer, producer, and songwriter has seemingly come out of nowhere into the R&B spotlight, but it took years of hard work to become an overnight success." Cym, a self-taught musician, started out singing gospel music in church as a schoolboy in Houston. He started singing for the group the Sam Brothers 5 as the lead singer, who formed in 1969. In these early years, the Sam Brothers 5 was a zydeco band and Cym was looking for something more than just zydeco music. Leaving the group as a teenager, he teamed up with band members Troy Manuel and Tim Jones and put the band Freedom together in 1971. They were together for about two years before changing their name to the Main Performers, a band of seven members, with Cym as the lead singer. The group was influenced by groups like Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly and Earth Wind & Fire and played live music in local clubs and bars in the Houston area. As time passed, they caught the attention of Ruel Hampton, a local businessman who eventually released a recording by the group. It turned out that music performed by Main Performers did not fit into the "Houston Sound," and after some heavy touring, the group relocated to California. After that outfit dissolved, Cym moved back to Houston and founded the band Imprint, which would be the first group he recorded on his own in 1999. After their breakup, Cym later moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 2006. The unit was rechristened as Cymbolton. On June 1, 2010, Cym is independently releasing his first solo album, Anything, on iTunes. Cym has played with some of the best in the music business from Don Carlos, Shakaman, Haile Maskel, Boom Shaka, Dr. King Cobra, B Positive, Tony Xpress, Project 1, Natty Dread, Daddy URoy, Ras Bunny, Leroy Smart, Rhythm Collective, R-Style, and many more. The Band: Ron (Cym) Chandler on Lead vocals, Drums and keys, Grover Lipkins on Lead Guitar and vocals, Thomas Wells on the Bass Guitar, Leland Mickles on Piano and vocals, and J Duke Riggs on Drums.
